The Monthly Meeting of the Council was held on Thursday 7th January 2016 at 6.00 pm in the Community Centre.

The Minutes of the Meeting held on Thursday 3rd December 2015 were accepted as a true record.

County Member Matters Arising

05/16 Council Matters Arising/Materion yn Codi
a) The face book page has now been set up.
b) The skip has been ordered for Monday 1st February 2016 at
St David’s Church Hall
c) Sardis Baptist Church – Members expressed their appreciation of the Christmas tree and lights erected at the Chapel.
06/16 To consider underpayment of electricity at the hall and agree action
It was agreed to contact Swalec with a view to installing a smart meter in order to avoid underpayments of electricity.
Resolved pay underpayment.
07/16 Correspondence Received/Gohebiaith
Letter of resignation from Caretaker/cleaner. An advertisement will be placed on web site, face book, library, Post office and notice boards. The members would like to thank Mrs Cheryl Jenkins for all her hard work over the last 3.1/2 years.

Parks and Environment Committee
a) No meeting held in December. Next meeting will be Wednesday 20th January 2016 at the Community centre.
b) A meeting with the Bowls clubs has been arranged for Wednesday 13th January 2016 at the Community centre to discuss the new grass cutter and hours of the Park Keeper.
Finance Committee
No meeting held in December. Next meeting will be Thursday 21st January 2016 at the Community centre
09/16 Chairman’s Report
The Chairman wished everybody a happy New Year, and looked forward to an continuing the work of the Community Council in the coming year.
10/16 Planning
Applicant: Paul Lloyd, 17 Riverside Gardens, Glynneath
Site : land south of Neath Road, Abergarwed
Proposed Development: New detached barn for storage of potatoes, plus retention of engineering operation for the importation of inert material.
We have commented that we do not object as long as preservation of the canal curtilege is maintained.
11/16 Councillors reports
a) Concern has been expressed about the closure of the Canal Basin toilets. This is a popular tourist area and the Community Council strongly objects to the removal of the toilets.
NPT to be contacted re this decision.
b) A report has been received of flooding at the undercarriage walkway between
Abergarwed and Clyne, with walkers crossing over the A465. South Wales Trunk Road Agency were informed to look at the A465 crossing and Natural Resources Wales have been contacted to attend a site meeting to look at the Lower Clydach River.
