Minutes of the meeting Parks and Environment and Hall Committee
8th July 2026

Prior to the meeting members met with Mr Dean Thomas and
Mr John Llewelyn members of the Resolven AFC.
1. Mr Thomas outlined the ongoing concerns regarding the maintenance of the recreation field. To keep the field in good condition there is a need for drainage, weed killer, fertiliser and seeding for the next football season next year. Quotes have been obtained and the cost would be approx. £1475 at todays rates.
This item would be subject to next years precept and Mr Thomas was advised to come back later in the year with a definite quote for members to discuss in full council
2.They will also be holding a tournament on 1st August 26 and requested the permission to sell soft drinks and crisps at this event.
This request was granted
3. Mr Thomas has received a request from Glynneath Football Club to use the field to play games on Saturdays.
This request was denied and Mr Thomas will inform Glynneath AFC
4. Further discussion centred around the Resolven AFC, setting up a new company Resolven AFC Interest Company, in order to obtain grants for new equipment. The question was asked about the possibility of leasing the field to the company.
This is an item for the full council at the next meeting in September.
Bowling Green / Pavilion
Additional general maintenance tools are required and will be purchased in due course
Maintenance
All routine maintenance work is ongoing and carried out as required.
A letter will be sent to Short Bros., Resolven Industrial Estate, regarding the damaged fencing along the park boundary, requesting that repairs be undertaken as soon as possible.
No Response has been received from the company to date.
An area has been identified to open the tennis courts/muga full time and block of the green.
Children’s Park
Cllr Coulter has advised that an internet search engine has a reference to Resolven Park as allowing dogs. As this is clearly not the case Cllr J. Martin has contacted Google to edit the reference. We are fortunate to now have a social media expert.
Abergarwed Park
The proposed shelter has now been ordered and will be installed upon delivery.
A quote has been received for the painting of the play equipment.

No issues were raised.
Environment
No issues were raised
Councillor Report
Cllr P. Martin proposed that the parks meeting be absorbed into the full council meeting in the future.
